MANDATE
Our mandate is to work in partnership with the local community and Grasslands National Park of Canada to promote the conservation of native prairie landscapes, while inviting the exploration and appreciation of prairie culture and natural history.
About us
PWSS is a non-profit, volunteer organization dedicated to assisting Grasslands National Park of Canada in its efforts to promote the ecological integrity of native prairie landscapes and to increase public understanding, appreciation, and enjoyment of those landscapes.
In addition to the visitor services offered at the Little Brick Schoolhouse, PWSS publishes the Field Guide to Grasslands National Park, sells park memorabelia and operates this website.
PWSS is an incorporated, registered charitable organization. It was founded October 1996 by a group of dedicated volunteers in the village of Val Marie, in southwest Saskatchewan.
Every May to October, PWSS operates an internet cafe, museum, art gallery, and gift store out of the 1927 brick schoolhouse in the village of Val Marie, in southwest Saskatchewan. The schoolhouse is one of two heritage structures in the village, the old grain elevator being the second.
We are managed by a board of six directors, along with a non-voting representative from Grasslands National park.
We are a member of Canadian Parks Partnerships and the Museum Association of Saskatchewan.
PWSS takes great pride in having developed and published the only field guide to Grasslands National Park, together with providing an important interpretive service to the many visitors to this unique landscape.

about Canadian Parks Partnership
Formed in 1986 as a nation-wide alliance of volunteer cooperating associations, the Canadian Parks Partnership supports National Parks, National Historic Sites and Historic Canals in every province across Canada. It supports the department in accomplishing its mandate, enhancing programs, delivering messages and providing a vehicle for Canadians to participate in and have a sense of ownership of Canada's system of parks, national historic sites and canals. Revenue generated from products, corporate sponsorships and donations goes into the Partners Parks Fund to support and enhance Parks Canada’s — programs (see Cooperating Association).
